Joel Hyer in classThe School of Arts and Sciences is one of the two major academic units at Chadron State College. The School of Arts and Sciences was established on July 1, 2002, when Chadron State College reorganized its academic structure to better serve the needs of students, increase efficiency, establish consistency in policies and reduce administrative overhead.

Although the School’s name may imply otherwise, Arts and Sciences encompasses all the traditional academic areas into five departments: Language, Literature and Communication Arts; Mathematical Sciences; Physical and Life Sciences; Social Sciences and Justice Studies; and Visual and Performing Arts. Field TripEach of the five departments are further subdivided into academic disciplines that offer programs in English, Journalism, Speech Communications, Spanish, Humanities, Mathematics, Information Science and Technology, Chemistry, Geosciences, Physics, Biology, Health Sciences, History, Applied History, American Indian Studies, Geography, Political Science, Sociology, Justice Studies, Legal Studies, Art, Music and Theatre, as well as an Honors Program.

CSC Theatre FacultyThe School of Arts and Sciences has fifty-four tenure-track professors who staff the wide variety of courses that support the programs listed above. In addition these programs can prepare students for employment in health professions, business, industry, education, technology, law enforcement, the arts and entertainment, or government agencies. In addition many of our graduates go on to further their educations in professional or graduate schools or begin their own businesses. A strong internship program provides our students with practical experience in business and industry. And our outstanding faculty is involved in many special projects and research opportunities with our students.
