Tim Collins
Chadron State College
Assistant Men's Basketball Coach
August 2006 -- The new assistant men’s basketball coach
at Chadron State is Tim Collins,
who is seeking a master’s degree while working with Head Coach Brent
Bargen and the Eagles.
Collins is a native of Santa Monica, Calif. He attended
Loyola High School, where he lettered in basketball and track and was captain
of the basketball
team his
senior year in 2000-01. As a senior he played behind Omar Wilkes, now a starter
at the University of California and son of Jamaal Wilkes, the UCLA and Los
Angeles Lakers star.
Collins attended Loyola Marymount University,
where he initially was a student manager and then a student assistant
coach for the
men’s
basketball team coached by Chadron State graduate Steve Aggers. He
also was the video coordinator
for the Lions and did the play-by-play for the LMU volleyball team for the
campus radio station.
Last year, Collins was the director of basketball
operations for Head Coach Bob Burton at Cal State Fullerton. His
duties included
coordinating the video
and
academic programs, making the travel arrangements and directing the summer
camps. He also assisted with the scouting.
Coach Bargen became acquainted
with Collins several years ago while Bargen was an assistant coach and
was in charge of the 49ers’ summer camps.
“Coach Aggers of Loyola Marymount contacted me and said his freshman
team manager wanted to work at our camps. I took that advice and added
Tim to the
staff. Even
then Tim was the best camp coach we had. I knew then that when I became
a head coach I wanted him on my staff. It all worked out this year at
Chadron State.”
Bargen noted that Collins has learned from two great
men and two fine coaches—Steve
Aggers and Bob Burton.
Bargen continued, “Coach Collins has terrific
energy, is passionate about the game and is a great teacher of fundamentals.
More importantly, he is a
genuine person with outstanding people skills. He is a tremendous asset
to our program,
the student-athletes, the campus and the community. Chadron State is fortunate
to have him on its staff.” |
