What are your deadlines? Most print news deadlines are established well ahead of the print date, so we appreciate being notified of news items at least two weeks in advance. The Chadron Record, for instance, requires copy to be submitted by Monday noon for Wednesday's edition.
What about the Week Ahead?
The Week Ahead is the college's online employee newsletter that is published on Thursdays throughout the school year. In addition to being distributed to CSC employees, it is sent to retired CSC employees and some publicly elected officials. For publication, copy must be submitted by 10 a.m. on publication day. The most recent issue and a link to archived editions can be found by visiting www.csc.edu/twa. You can submit items for the Week Ahead to cscinfo@csc.edu.
Where can I read the stories that are produced by the Information Office? Stories written for a general audience are posted at this Web site. Students and employees also may access the most recent stories from MyCSC, the college's Web portal.
To whom does the Information Office send its news? In addition to targeting media outlets that we determine are most likely to take interest in stories, we maintain an extensive e-mail list of media professionals who receive all stories posted to the CSC Web site. This list includes almost all weekly newspapers in Chadron State's service region, most daily newspapers in Nebraska, and broadcast media in Nebraska, Wyoming and South Dakota. We also provide content for numerous Chadron State College publications.
Can you come to my event to take photos and write a story? We do our best to attend those events which we believe merit coverage. Because of time limitations, events of interest to people outside the Chadron State College community may take priority to those scheduled for the internal CSC audience.
I capitalized my job title in the information I sent to you, and the person who wrote the story lowercased it. What's up with that? Except in some special circumstances, College Relations produces its stories in Associated Press Style, the most commonly used style among U.S. media outlets and the approved style for CSC publications. If you see changes in capitalization, punctuation or wording from the information that you submitted, it is probably a result of conforming to media style.
I'm a CSC employee who has been receiving news updates by e-mail, but not sports updates. Why? Only stories from the CSC news Web site are sent to the entire CSC staff. You may sign up for sports updates at www.csc.edu/athletics .
My publicity portrait is out of date. How do I get a new one? College Relations has professional quality studio lighting and camera equipment. Make an appointment. There is no sitting fee and prints can be obtained at cost.
I need a passport photo. Can the Information Office produce one for me? Yes, for a fee of $2. Please call in advance for an appointment and allow one week processing time.
